Home Remedies to Treat Psoriasis at Home
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apply apple cider vinegar on the affected areas to get relief from psoriasis. For scalp psoriasis treatment, you need to dilute apple cider vinegar in some warm water and pour it on your head. Rub it for a few minutes and then wash it off. Apple cider vinegar helps restore the acidity of the skin while reducing the symptoms of psoriasis.
- Do not use this remedy if the skin of your scalp is bleeding or cracked.
- If you feel burning sensation, avoid direct application of ACV on the skin. Dilute it with water and then apply.
2. Epsom Salt
Soak in a bathtub containing warm water mixed with epsom salt. This is an effective cure for psoriasis. Besides, the minerals in epsom salt turn your dry, rough skin into soft and smooth.
Note – Apply moisturizer on your skin after taking epsom salt bath.
3. Cashew Nut Oil
Apply some cashew nut oil to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis. This remedy also removes the dead skin cells and deep moisturizes the skin.
4. Banana Peel
Rub the inner side of banana peel on affected parts. It will reduce the burning sensation and rashes associated with psoriasis.
5. Castor Oil
Apply castor oil on the lesions and leave it overnight to get rid of psoriasis fast. For the best results, add some baking soda to castor oil.
Note – Do not use this remedy on the cracked skin.
6. Garlic Oil
This is one of the best natural treatments for plaque psoriasis. Mix some garlic oil with fresh aloe vera gel and apply on the affected skin. Garlic oil has powerful antibiotic properties and when it is mixed with aloe vera, the mixture becomes perfect for healing the infection.
7. Black Pepper
Black pepper contains a compound called capsaicin which is effective in reducing the pain and itchiness caused due to the psoriasis. You can also apply a capsaicin-based cream to treat the infection.
8. Olive Oil
This is one of the best remedies to treat scalp psoriasis. Massage some warm olive oil on your scalp to soften the scaly blisters. After sometime, wash your hair with regular shampoo. If the infection is on the body parts, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a glass of milk and mix it well. Now, pour the mixture in your bathwater and soak your body in it to ease the psoriasis symptoms.
9. Bitter Gourd Juice
Drink bitter gourd juice every morning to remove the symptoms of psoriasis. Add a few drops of lemon juice to it for taste.
Chamomile tea is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Apply chamomile tea on the reddish scales formed due to psoriasis.
Note – Do not use chamomile if you have ragweed allergies.
11. Baking Soda
Mix baking soda and water in the ratio of 1:3. Apply it using a cotton ball on the red scaly patches of the skin to reduce the itchiness occurred due to psoriasis. Use this remedy continuously for a few days.
12. Coconut Oil
Apply warm coconut oil on the affected part of the skin, at least half an hour before going for a bath. Coconut oil will help reduce the dryness, thereby, prevent the psoriasis from spreading further.
13. Wheat Germ Oil, Castor Oil & Sunflower Oil
Add a teaspoon of castor oil and wheat germ oil to a cup of sunflower oil, and apply this mixture on the psoriasis affected skin.
Oatmeal is considered as an effective soothing agent for the skin. So, you can try having oatmeal water bath or apply paste of it to relieve psoriasis on legs.
Turmeric is one of the most effective home remedies for psoriasis, as it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. You can include turmeric in your food. This will heal the infection internally.
16. Vegetable Oil
Mix a cup of vegetable oil in a bucket of water and bathe with this water. This will help cure the symptoms of psoriasis. You can also use mineral oil to get a quick relief from psoriasis.
17. Fuller’s Earth
Prepare a mud pack by adding water in powdered fuller’s earth. Apply this pack on the affected areas and allow it to dry. Finally, rinse off with water.
Take some cabbage leaves and wash them with warm water. Remove thick veins from the leaves. Now flatten the leaves and slightly crush them. Put them on the affected area and cover with a warm, damp cloth. Use a bandage to fix them temporarily.
19. Avocado Oil
Massage the affected skin gently with avocado oil. It cures itchiness and irritation resulted due to psoriasis. This remedy also protects your skin from sun-rays.
Apply buttermilk to the affected area to soothe the flared up itchy skin.
21. Fish Oil
Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acid which is an effective cure for patchy and scaly skin. You can massage the affected area with a cream containing fish oil. Alternatively, consume fish oil supplements which are available in the form of capsules.
Herbal Remedies to Cure Psoriasis
22. Dandelion Tincture
Consume 30-60 drops of dandelion tincture at least 2 times a day. Dandelion improves the bile flow along with flushing out the harmful toxins from the body, and alleviates the symptoms of psoriasis. Herbalists generally suggest taking it with yellow dock.
23. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is one of the best home remedies for psoriasis. Apply fresh aloe vera gel on the lesions thrice a day. Continue this remedy for about a month. The soothing and healing properties of aloe vera helps treat the problem quickly.
24. Burdock Root
Consume 20-40 drops of burdock root tincture every day till the psoriasis symptoms subside. Burdock root prevents the infection and formation of red bumps.
25. Mahonia Aquifolium
This anti-microbial herb is good for treating psoriasis symptoms. Apply cream containing 10% mahonia herb to heal the mild psoriasis.
26. Tea Tree Oil
You can also apply diluted tea tree oil to treat the psoriasis scales on the skin. But, make sure you are not allergic to it. Tea tree oil has excellent anti-bacterial properties that wondrously keep the infection at bay.
Boil heads of 4 marigolds in 4 cups of water. Strain the solution and let it cool down. Use it on the affected body parts. You can also apply it on the scalp as it does not cause any harm to hair.
28. Indian Lilac (Margosa)
Indian lilac is the best herbal remedy for several skin-related ailments. Crush some fresh margosa leaves and extract juice. Apply it on the affected skin. Or else, boil some margosa leaves in water. Strain and cool the solution. Apply on the irritated skin with the help of a cotton ball.
