Home Remedies for Ingrown Toenails

1. Warm Water

Soak your feet in the lukewarm water. Let it be soaked for about 20 minutes daily to relieve the pain and prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. This remedy also makes the nails soft and treats an infected ingrown toenail.

2. Cotton

It is one of the most important steps to cure the ingrown toenail at home. All you have to do is roll cotton into a thin wick and insert it between the toe skin and nail. It may hurt a little initially but is very helpful. This remedy may take about 10-12 days to heal the problem.

3. Lemon

Tying a piece of lemon around the toe will help fight infection and bacteria. Take a lemon slice and tie it with the help of bandage around the toe. Leave it overnight. The acidic nature of lemon is an effective ingrown toenail treatment.

4. Potassium Permanganate

Potassium permanganate is an excellent disinfectant, and it will keep your toes and feet clean. In a bucket of water, add a very little quantity of potassium permanganate. Soak your feet in it for about 15-20 minutes.

Note – This remedy will make your feet a bit brown, but keep them germ-free.

5. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is very useful in making the skin softer. Dissolve Epsom salt in a bucket full of water and soak your feet in it for about 20 minutes regularly.

It also has antiseptic properties that give you respite from the pain. Take about half a cup of hydrogen peroxide and mix it in a bucket of water. Immerse your feet in it for 30 minutes on the daily basis.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar is of great help in treating the skin-related infections and inflammations. It can be either applied or ingested. To apply it, you can directly rub it on the skin, or you can soak your feet in a bucket containing water and one tablespoon of ACV.

  • Alternatively, mix one teaspoon of ACV with a little bit of honey. Consume this mixture daily to get rid of an ingrown toenail.
