Many people find shaving to be a tiresome and painful task and will avoid doing it until it’s absolutely necessary. Razor bumps are common for both women and men and occur when facial hair either does not grow out of the follicle or the hair curls back into the skin. They are similar to ingrown hair, the only difference is that these razor bumps become red and inflamed and may sometimes fill up with pus. Women who shave their legs, underarms and vaginal area, suffer just as much as men. The main causes of razor bumps include- sensitive skin, shaving without cream or soap, using a blunt blade, and using the wrong shaving technique. The following remedies will help you relieve the discomfort of razor bumps.
How to get rid of Razor Bumps
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Take ½ a cup of apple cider vinegar. Dab a cotton ball in the solution. Apply gently to the affected part. Let it dry naturally. Wash your face with warm water and pat dry. Repeat this at least three times a day.
Note – People with sensitive skin must dilute the solution with an equal amount of water.
Aspirin has anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce the redness caused by razor bumps. Dissolve two tablets of aspirin in about one tablespoon of lukewarm water.
Once the tablet dissolves, rub the paste on the area that is affected by razor bumps. Leave the paste on for 10 minutes.
Wash your face with lukewarm water. Doing this twice a day will help get rid of razor bumps fast.
Note: People with sensitive skin should avoid using aspirin.

5. Black Tea Bags
Simply dip a tea bag in some hot water for a few minutes. Remove the tea bag from the water and place it on a dish.
Place the dish in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Now, rub the cool tea bag on the razor bumps for three minutes. Do this several times in a day for quick relief from razor bumps.
Well, cucumber has anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties, plus it is high in vitamin K and C both of which are best known for their healing properties.
Cut a few slices of cucumber and place them in the refrigerator for half an hour. Take out the slices from the refrigerated cucumber and rub on the affected skin for 10 minutes.
- You can also make a puree of cucumber and milk.
- Simply, peel one cucumber and add it to ¼ cup of milk and mix in a blender.
- Place the puree in the refrigerator for 10 minutes and then apply to the affected area. Keep it on for 10 minutes and now rinse your face with lukewarm water.
- Do this twice a day for two consecutive days.
Mix some grounded oatmeal with plain yogurt in a bowl.
Make sure you use equal portions of both the ingredients. Now add one teaspoon of honey to the mixture.
Apply the mixture on the affected skin and let it dry for about half an hour. Rinse off with warm water. Repeat twice a day for three consecutive days.
8. Hot Compress
Dip a cloth in hot water, squeeze out the excess water and apply onto the inflamed skin for 5 to 10 minutes.
Do this every day till you get relief.
Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
10. Lemon Juice
Once you have covered all the bumps, let it dry and wash your face with lukewarm water.
Note – Do not use this remedy if you have sensitive skin.
11. Strawberry Paste
Mash a few strawberries.
Add a little bit of sour cream and mix properly. Apply to the affected area and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash if off with cold water and pat dry.
12. Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub
To get rid of razor bumps simply mix 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons each of white and brown sugar.
Apply the mixture on the skin and let it stay on your skin for ten minutes. Wash your face/affected area with warm water.
13. Olive Oil
Simply mix one tablespoon of olive oil and five drops of tea tree oil in a bowl. Apply on the affected area using a cotton ball.
Keep it on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
14. Essential Oils
Essential oils like calendula, lavender, and chamomile have healing properties.
Add 10 drops of any of your favorite essential oil to a quarter cup of ice-cold water and apply on the affected area.
Let it dry and then wash it off with normal tap water.
Note: Never use undiluted essential oil on your skin.
15. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties (3), which makes it one of the excellent herbal remedies for razor bumps.
Take about two tablespoons of water in a bowl, and add five drops of tea tree oil to it.
Apply the solution onto the affected area using your fingertips. Let it stay for ten minutes and then wash your face with water. Do this twice in a day.
How to get rid of Razor Bumps on vagina
The following remedies are particularly good at treating razor bumps on the vagina.
16. Cold Compress
It helps to reduce the inflammation and has a calmative effect on the affected area.
Place a few ice cubes in a thin cloth, such as a handkerchief. Wrap it up and apply onto the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes.
Alternatively, dip a cloth in ice cold water and put it on the inflamed area. Do this as often as possible during the day, until the burning sensation subsides.
Women who shave their vagina and underarms can also use this remedy to cure razor bumps.
17. Witch Hazel
Simply, dip a cotton ball in some hydrosol solution which has witch hazel and apply onto the bumps. Leave it on and do not rinse it off.
18. Baking Soda
It also helps in reducing the itchiness caused by razor bumps. To make a baking soda solution, dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in one cup of water.
Dip a cotton ball in the solution and then apply on the affected area. Keep it on for five minutes and wash it off with cold water.

19. Aloe Vera
One can opt to use an aloe vera based cream or use freshly extracted aloe vera gel.
