1. Ice Pack

Ice pack technique has helped cure root canal pain since ages and is one of the most convenient ways to soothe the pain. You can put ice cubes wrapped in a cloth on your face for about 5 minutes. It will give you relief from the pain. If you don’t get relief with this treatment, try putting ice pack for 15 minutes instead of 5, for at least 3-4 times a day.

2. Liquid Diet

Chewing and biting may cause more pain in your tooth, and you may not be able to eat properly and can become weak. It is better to feed on liquid diet till the pain is gone, and the infection is removed. You can drink carrot or orange juice, but they shouldn’t be too cool as it may make your teeth more sensitive and cause more pain.

3. Gargle

For the sake of fighting the infection and soothing the pain, do gargle with salt water. All you need to do is dissolve one tsp of salt in a glass of warm water. Gargle with this water twice or thrice a day.

4. Alcohol

Gargling with alcoholic beverages, like whiskey, scotch, and beer is an effective cure for root canal pain, or you can use mouthwash that has alcohol as one of its ingredients. Consumption of alcohol can be beneficial too only, if consumed in little quantity, else it can turn detrimental for your health.

5. Cucumber

Cucumber is well-known for its pain relieving and cooling properties. It can provide you instant relief from the toothache resulted due to a root canal. You can take a slice of cucumber and put it on the affected tooth inside the mouth. Repeat the process to get the best results.

6. Eating Soft and Mild Food

Eating spicy and sweet food can hurt your tooth badly. Therefore, it is advised to eat soft and less peppery food. Drinking raw milk and eating high protein food will help cure the sensation early.

7. Elevated Pillow

Root canal pain can be eased by elevating the pillow while sleeping. It not only prevents painful gum and nerve throbbing, but also stops the bleeding as pillow elevation provides the way for blood flow in a particular direction.

8. Hydrogen Peroxide

Keep a freshly cut thin slice of potato on the affected area for some time to alleviate the pain. Repeat it several times a day to stop the growth of bacteria.

11. Tea Bags

After making the tea, don’t throw away the leftover tea bags. Instead, put them on the aching tooth. The juice of the tea leaves can cure the tooth and make the area numb for a while.

Note – The tea bag should be warm and shouldn’t be opened or torn from anywhere.

Baking soda can be of great help when suffering from root canal pain. All you have to do is dip a cotton ball in water and then after squeezing out the extra water, coat it with the baking soda. Apply it on the affected tooth.

13. Pepper and Salt Paste

16. Raw Butter

By eating less amount of yellow butter and consuming a large chunk of white butter, one can reduce the symptoms of root canal pain. Moreover, the mushiness of the butter will not hurt your tooth.

Olive oil provides you a soothing sensation. Dip a cotton ball in the olive oil and gently apply it to the aching tooth to get rid of root canal pain.

Clove is the most reliable remedy for all the problems related to teeth. Put a clove near the aching tooth. Suck it for some time. You can also apply clove oil. Alternatively, prepare a paste by adding water to grounded cloves, and apply it.

Note – Keeping many cloves in your mouth for a long time can harm your tooth or gums.

This remedy may sound weird, but is very helpful in curing the root canal pain. Cut an onion and place it in the mouth for some time. Suck its juice.

Note – The onion to be kept in the mouth should be freshly cut.

Take a garlic clove and smash it. Keep it on the affected tooth and let the garlic juice spread around it, or you can even try chewing it. It will help you get relieved from the pain, kill the bacteria and stop the growth of the infection, as it has good antibiotic and medicinal properties.

22. Tree Tea Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the trusted remedies for root canal pain. Mix 3-4 drops of tea tree oil in warm water. Gargle with it 3-4 times a day. This remedy will stop the root canal pain.

23. Plantain

Chew a few plantain leaves. If your tooth happens to be too sore to chew it, you may chew it from the other side and then drink water. Or else, make a paste of the leaves by crushing them and mixing a few droplets of water in it. Apply this paste. This is again an effective natural remedy for root canal pain.
