Though not harmful, skin tags can affect your pretty looks. Skin tags are small, red, or brown colored deformed outgrowths of the skin that may appear on any part of the body (inner thighs, armpits, nose, face, chest, neck, etc.), at any age. Skin tags may be caused due to changes in hormones during pregnancy, scratches (due to clothing, jewelry, or shaving), heredity, excessive use of steroids, etc. It sometimes can be itchy, but not painful. It can easily be treated at home. Here are some simple home remedies to get rid of skin tags.
Home Remedies to Get Rid of Skin Tags
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a popular home remedy to cure skin tags. Take a cotton ball. Soak it into 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Squeeze it to remove excessive vinegar. Now apply it on the skin tags. Wash your face with lukewarm water before applying this remedy. Repeat it thrice a day for effective results.
2. Pineapple Juice
Pineapple juice is one of the simplest ways to treat skin tags. All you need to do is apply this juice on the skin tags using cotton balls at least twice a day.
Garlic’s antibacterial and anti-fungal properties make it a perfect skin tag removal home remedy. Make a paste by crushing 3-4 fresh garlic cloves. Apply the paste on skin tags. Use bandage to keep the paste in place. Apply it daily before going to bed until it is cured.
4. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice also helps a lot when it comes to removing skin tags at home. As lemon consists of citric acid, it helps overcome the problem by decomposing the cells in the skin tag. Soak a cotton ball in the lemon juice. Apply it on the affected area. Let it dry. Continue this twice or thrice a day for 2-3 weeks until skin tags are cured completely.
5. Onion Juice
Onion is acidic in nature. This makes it an effective home remedy for skin tag. Slice an onion into pieces. Sprinkle 1½ teaspoons of salt on it and leave in a closed vessel overnight. Next morning extract its juice and apply on the affected skin before going to bed. Use bandage to cover it. Continue doing this until skin tags are removed.
6. Banana Peel
Banana peels, with their antioxidant properties and enzymes, work wonders on skin tags. Cut a banana peel into small pieces. Apply the inside part of it on the skin tag. To keep it in place, use bandage. Use this remedy every night before going to bed until you get rid of this problem.
7. Duct Tape
It might sound weird, but duct tape is an effective skin tag treatment. Put a duct tape on your skin tag for 10-12 days and then remove it. The results will surprise you.
8. Nail Polish
It’s an effective and interesting way to get rid of skin tags. Simply apply nail polish onto the affected area and allow it to dry. Now remove it. Continue this process twice or thrice a day until you see the results.
9. Dental Floss
Dental floss is not just meant to be used for dental purpose. It certainly has at least one more purpose to serve. Yes, dental floss works well to remove skin tags on any body part. Tie a dental floss around the skin tag at its base. It should be very tight so that it doesn’t loosen up. Leave it like this for a week and you would notice that skin tag falls off naturally.
Note – Make sure the dental floss is clean before you use it. Sterilizing solution and gloves would help you clean it. Also, this process can cause some pain.
10. Baking Soda
Baking soda acts as a mild exfoliant and helps remove skin tags at home. Form a paste by mixing baking soda with warm water. Gently apply it on the tags and allow it to dry fully. Repeat this procedure at least twice a day for 2 weeks.
11. Fenugreek Seeds
Abundance of anti-oxidants in fenugreek seeds makes it a robust home remedy to treat many health problems like dry hair, pimples, and skin tags. Soak 2-3 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in warm water overnight. In the morning, drink this water as the first thing. The skin tags would start shrinking. Do this for 1-2 weeks until they completely vanish.
Ginger, with its numerous medicinal benefits, helps cure skin tags too. Just by rubbing raw ginger on the affected area for a continuous period of about 2 weeks, you can get rid of the skin tag problem.
13. Cauliflower Juice
Consuming vegetables is always beneficial. Cauliflower is also very beneficial when it comes to treating skin tags. Prepare cauliflower juice by mixing it with water. Apply it on the skin tags.
- Alternatively, blend 1 potato, 2 garlic cloves, and a few cauliflower pieces to make thick juice. Apply this paste on your skin every night before going to sleep. Use bandage to keep it in place.
14. Vitamin E Capsule
Cut the tip of vitamin E capsule and rub the oil on skin tags. You may place a bandage over it to seal. This will stop the blood supply and help tags fall off. Repeat this process twice a day for 1-2 weeks.
Potatoes help a lot in doing away with skin tags. Cut a potato in slices. Place these slices on the skin tags and hold them with the help of bandage. Repeat this for a few days.
- Or else, apply potato juice on the affected area.
Herbal Remedies to Get Rid of Skin Tags
16. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is one of the best herbal remedies to remove skin tags at home. It has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties due to which it dries out the skin tags. Take a cotton ball and soak it in water. Squeeze to remove excessive water. Now pour 2-3 drops of tea tree oil onto it and rub your skin tag with it gently. Do this remedy thrice a day for 8-10 days.
Note – If your skin is sensitive then dilute the oil with equal amount of water before applying on the tags.
17. Fig Stem Juice
Fig stem is acidic in nature so it helps balance the alkaline – acid ratio of the body. Make juice of some fig stems by blending them. Apply this to your skin 3-4 times a day. Repeat this process for 2-4 weeks until the skin tags disappear.
18. Dandelion Stem Oil
Dandelion flower has many health benefits for liver and skin. The juice extracted from its stem works wonders on skin tags. Apply this juice on the skin tags directly. Allow it to dry. Repeat this process 3-4 times a day and your skin tags will gradually fall off.
Note – Before using it, make sure you are not allergic to dandelion or such plant like marigold, daisies. If so, avoid using this remedy.
19. Oregano Oil
Oregano oil is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. So it treats skin tags very well. Mix 2-3 drops of oregano oil with 4-6 drops of coconut oil. Apply this on the skin tags directly. Repeat this at least thrice a day. The tags will start getting dry gradually and you would not find them anymore.
- Never use this oil alone as it may cause irritation and redness. Rather use it with carrier oil like coconut oil to dilute it.
- Don’t use this remedy for the skin tags over eyelids as eyes are very sensitive.
20. Bloodroot Paste
Bloodroot is extensively used for treating skin tags at home. This is a powerful remedy as it can remove tags within 4 days, but should not be used if no changes happen. Make a bloodroot paste by mixing bloodroot powder in water. Apply a little amount of this paste on your skin tag. Cover it with a bandage and leave it for 2 hours. Then wash your face properly.
Note – This home remedy is quite successful, but it may cause side effects like damaging your healthy skin. So consider it as a last option.
21. Black Walnut
Not many know about this but black walnut makes a good home remedy to treat skin ailments like acne, moles, warts, skin tags. Take 5-10 walnuts with green husks. Wear gloves and remove the husk from the black walnuts. Now put those husks in a saucepan and pour water on them. Bring it to boil and cover the pan with a tight lid after putting the flames off. Leave it for a day and then store in a bottle after straining it. Apply this tincture on the skin tags 2-3 times a day until they are removed.
22. Castor Oil
Castor oil is an excellent home remedy for skin problems including skin tags. Make a thick paste of castor oil with baking soda. Apply this paste on your skin tags. Now cover it with a bandage. Do this every day before you sleep for 10 days.
- Or else, apply castor oil directly on your skin tags at least 5 times in a day to eradicate skin tags at home.
Note – You can also use lemon in it to make it less stinky.
23. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera’s moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties make it a perfect home remedy for healing any kind of skin disease. Rub fresh aloe vera gel on the affected skin gently thrice a day for 2-3 weeks.
- Include vegetables and fruits in your diet.
- You can also use nail clipper and scissor for skin tags but only after sterilizing them properly.
- Keep your weight under control.
- If your skin tags are causing irritation, seek medical help.
- Avoid sugar.
- Refrain from fat made from animal oil.
- Do not confuse skin tags with a wart as both require different treatments.
