Home Remedies to Get Rid of Jock Itch

Jock itch is a fungal infection that generally affects the moist areas of the body such as the anal and vaginal region, buttocks, and the inner thighs. Along with red rashes around the groin area, the other major symptoms of jock itch include itching around the thighs and genitals, flaking skin, and burning sensation. People with diabetes, low immunity and obesity are most prone to jock itch. It is usually caused by wearing tight clothes, moisture, rubbing of the skin, fungal infection, allergies, excessive sweating, candida, and excessive growth of bacteria. Several other factors may include heat, humidity, exercise, usage of public bathrooms and restrooms. One can easily get rid of jock itch by taking proper care and following these home remedies.

Home Remedies to Get Rid of Jock Itch

1. Cleaning

Washing the area with clean water regularly is the most important way to get rid of jock itch. Use cold water for this purpose and then pat dry with the help of a towel.

Note – Use a different towel for drying the body and for the affected area as the infection may spread by using a common towel.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar helps treat many skin diseases because of its miraculous antifungal and antibacterial properties. Mix around 2 tablespoons of ACV in 2 cups of warm water, and wash the infected area with it. Allow it to dry on its own. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for the better results.

3. Alcohol

Soak a cotton ball in 90% isopropyl alcohol and pat it on the infected area directly. It will kill the fungi soon and keep the area dry. Repeat the process several times a day until the symptoms are gone.

4. Listerine

The antifungal, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties of Listerine make it an excellent remedy. Apply some Listerine mouthwash on the affected area with the help of cotton ball. It might hurt a little bit in the starting but will soon provide relief.

5. White Vinegar

Mix one part of vinegar and four parts of water. Apply it on the itching area. The solution will dry by itself, and there’s no need of washing it. Repeat the process twice a day.

  • Alternatively, mix equal parts of coconut oil and white vinegar, and apply it on the affected area. Wash the applied solution after 4 hours.

6. Bleach

Another good remedy for jock itch is bleach. All you have to do is mix one-fourth cup of bleach in a bathtub and soak the affected part in it for 15 minutes. After that, pat the area dry. Repeat the process regularly until the problem is cured permanently.

7. Salt Bath

Salt prevents the infection from growing further and even treats blisters. In the bath tub, add about 200gm of any kind of salt and soak yourself in it for about 30 minutes. Then wash off with normal water. Repeat the process every night until the signs of the itching are totally gone.

8. Onion

This remedy may sound weird, but it is a foolproof cure for jock itch. Boil an onion in water and make a puree out of it. Apply the prepared puree on the affected area for about 30 minutes and wash it off later.

  • Alternatively, you can apply onion oil or onion juice instead of the puree.

9. Garlic

Garlic consists of antifungal properties. Application of garlic paste for 15 minutes every day can turn out to be very helpful.

  • Alternatively, you can apply garlic oil. Simply roast some garlic cloves and mix them with the olive oil.

Note – If you have sensitive skin, do not use this remedy as it may cause burning sensation on the skin.

10. Baking Soda

Apply a paste of baking soda and water on the itchy area and let it dry. After the paste dries, wash it off with the cold water and pat the skin dry.

  • Alternatively, you can use hydrogen peroxide.

11. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another good method to treat the jock itch. After washing the area with clean water, apply some coconut oil and let it stay there. Repeat this process at least 3-4 times a day for the desired results.

12. Corn Starch

Corn starch can be used as a drying agent around the affected area since the effect of the jock itch grows with moisture. Repeat the process after every 3 hours or whenever you feel the area to be moist again.

13. Oatmeal Bath

An oatmeal bath can help cure jock itch. Take about 2 cups of oatmeal powder and mix it in the bathtub. Soak in it for about 20 minutes every night regularly.

14. Baby Powder

Baby powder keeps the affected area dry. It is also not harmful to the sensitive skin. Apply baby powder at regular time intervals until the problem is permanently gone.

15. Sunlight

Sunlight naturally kills all the bacteria and fungus. Walking in the sunlight for some time daily will treat the jock itch.

16. Honey

Honey is a very good skin treatment and consists of anti-inflammatory properties which make it an excellent remedy for the jock itch. All you have to do is grab the bottle of honey from your kitchen shelf and apply it on the infected area for about 30 minutes. After that, wash the area and pat it dry.

19. Hair Dryer

Note- Do not use hair dryer very close to the infected area as it may hurt.

Herbal Remedies to Get Rid of Jock Itch

20. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil, apart from being a very effective natural antifungal agent, is a drying agent too. Tea tree oil can be applied directly with the help of cotton ball on the affected area, and if it causes inflammation, you can mix it with the coconut oil before applying. Repeat the process twice a day until the signs are completely gone.

  • Alternatively, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil in the bathtub and soak in it for fifteen minutes, daily.

21. Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil reduces the itchiness in the affected area. Apply peppermint oil to the affected area every morning after bathing, to overcome the irritation.

22. Jasmine Oil

Mix jasmine oil and orange oil together and apply it on the itching area daily. It will cure the inflammation and provide early relief.

23. Chamomile Oil
