
Almost every woman desires luscious, long locks. In fact, long and shiny hair adds charm to your personality. The problem of hair loss or thinning is distressing for a number of people. Hair fall is a very common quandary for men too. Hair loss is generally caused due to aging, severe stress, hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems, poor diet, certain medications, anemia, excessive use of chemical-laden hair products, and sudden weight loss, etc. However, you need not worry since you can easily deal with this problem by using home remedies.
Home Remedies for Hair Growth
1. Lemon Juice
Combine 1 part of lemon juice with 2 parts of olive or coconut oil. Apply it thoroughly on your scalp and hair. Shampoo your hair after 30 to 45 minutes. Repeat the process once or twice a week.
2. Eggs
Whip 2 egg yolks and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to it. Now, apply this mix on your scalp. Wash after 15 to 20 minutes with cold water and then shampoo. Or else, take a blender and mix 1 egg and ¼ cup each of mayonnaise and plain yogurt. Apply it on your hair and cover them using a shower cap. After half an hour, wash them out.
3. Coconut Milk
Use coconut milk in any of the following ways:
- Take some coconut milk and massage your scalp with it. Wash after 30 minutes with lukewarm water. Carry out this process 2 to 4 times in a month.
- Mix one-quarter cup each of wheat germ oil, coconut milk, and aloe vera. Apply it on your scalp.
- Make a nourishing hair mask by mixing coconut milk, olive oil, avocado pulp, and a little honey.
4. Fish Oil
Take supplements that contain fish oil on daily basis for at least a month, to encourage healthy hair growth.
5. Fenugreek Seeds
Take a cup of fenugreek seeds and soak them in water for the whole night or for at least 4 hours. Next morning, grind them to form a paste. Apply some coconut oil before applying this paste on your hair. After 30 minutes, rinse and shampoo your hair. Perform the same process 2 to 3 times a week.
6. Castor Oil
Besides controlling hair loss, castor oil also fights off dandruff and scalp infections. Massage your scalp with a mixture of base oil and castor oil (mixed in equal amount). After 30 to 45 minutes, shampoo your hair.
- Alternatively, you can also mix an ounce of castor oil and 4 drops of rosemary essential oil and apply it on your scalp and hair.
7. Beetroot Juice
Blend half a cucumber, half a beet, and five carrots in a blender. Strain and drink it. It will help promote hair growth.
8. Onion Juice
Take some shallots or red onions and chop them into small pieces. Extract their juice and apply on your scalp. Wash off your hair with a mild shampoo after 15 minutes.
9. Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix 75ml of apple cider vinegar and one liter of water to prepare a solution. Make use of it on your strands as a final rinse. You can also store this solution for later use.
10. Potato Juice
Cut a potato into small pieces and extract its juice with the help of a blender. Apply this juice on your scalp; leave it for 15 minutes. Finally, rinse off with the mild shampoo.
11. Cayenne Pepper
This is one of the best natural remedies for hair growth. Simply combine 2 teaspoons of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of pepper powder. Now apply this on your scalp, and later wash it off with cool water.
12. Peppercorns
Another wonderful hair growth treatment is peppercorns. In half cup of lime juice, add 2 teaspoons of crushed peppercorns to prepare a smooth paste. Rub it on the roots of your hair and cover your head with a warm towel. Rinse off after 30 minutes.
13. Garlic
Crush a few cloves of garlic and boil them in the coconut oil or olive oil. Apply this mix in the roots of your hair and wash thoroughly thereafter. For the best results, continue using this remedy three times a week.
14. Avocado
Massage your hair tips and scalp with a mixture of avocado pulp and coconut oil. Wash thoroughly after 10-15 minutes.
15. Banana
Mash a ripe banana and apply it as a conditioner on your hair. You can also add some honey or milk and use it as a hair mask.
16. Orange
This is one of the best hair growth remedies for treating oily scalp and dandruff. Mash some orange pulp and apply it as a hair pack once every week.
- Otherwise, mix apple puree and orange juice in equal amount and apply it on your hair.
17. Vitamin E Oil
Consumption of vitamin A, B7, B12, B3, C, D, and E are essential for hair growth. You can massage your hair and scalp with vitamin E oil. Leave it on for a whole night and wash it off the next morning with a mild shampoo.
18. Folic Acid
Folic acid renews the cells that are responsible for hair growth. Its deficiency may lead to hair loss and premature graying. Therefore, eat folic acid rich food such as citrus fruits, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, brussels sprout, etc.
19. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is rich in potassium and proteins that promote hair growth and keep scalp healthy. For effective results, use hot coconut oil treatment.
20. Water
Drinking 8 cups of water daily will not only keep your body hydrated, but also aid in fast hair growth.
21. Cumin Seeds
Soak some cumin seeds in castor oil or olive oil for a night. Next morning, apply it on your hair. After 15 minutes, wash with a mild shampoo.
Herbs for Hair Growth
22. Henna Pack
Mix together half cup of yogurt and one cup of dry henna powder. Apply this pack to speed up the growth of your hair. Wash off with a mild shampoo after it dries off completely.
23. Green Tea
Prepare green tea and apply it on your scalp; leave it for about an hour. Later on, wash it off using cool water.
24. Hibiscus Flower
Prepare a paste by mixing hibiscus flower in sesame oil or coconut oil. Spread it evenly on your hair. Use a mild shampoo to wash off your hair.
25. Essential Oils Mix
Prepare a mixture of essential oils by combining thyme oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil, and jojoba oil in equal quantities. Apply this mix onto your scalp and cover your head with a shower cap. After about an hour, wash off.
26. Sage Oil
For natural hair growth, sage oil is the best remedy. Mix sage oil either with apple cider vinegar or other essential oils. Use it on your scalp.
27. Olive Oil
Use olive oil to promote hair growth and repair damaged hair. You can use olive oil as a pre-shampoo treatment.
28. Rosemary
Use rosemary oil to add volume to your hair. Combine together 2 tablespoons of any base oil such as coconut, olive, almond, jojoba, or avocado oil and 2 drops of rosemary essential oil. Massage your hair with this mixture and leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing.
- Alternatively, steep 2 to 3 rosemary sprigs in 2 cups of hot water for at least 5 minutes. Let it cool. Strain and rinse your hair with this mixture after shampooing.
29. Indian Gooseberry
Take a pan and heat some coconut oil. Add some dried Indian gooseberry pieces and cook until they become soft. Remove the gooseberry pieces and let the oil cool down. Massage your scalp and hair with this prepared oil. After 30 minutes, wash your hair using a mild shampoo. Repeat the same procedure every day.
- Another option is to mix 1 tablespoon each of lemon juice and Indian gooseberry powder. Use this paste on your scalp.
- Or else, apply fresh Indian gooseberry juice directly on your hair.
30. Green Curry Leaves
Curry leaves are one of the excellent natural hair growth treatments. Heat a few green curry leaves in coconut oil until they completely burn up into the oil. Now massage your scalp with this oil. This remedy not only provides long hair, but also prevents graying of strands.
31. Jojoba Oil
Give your scalp a massage with jojoba oil. Jojoba oil naturally moisturizes your hair follicles and stimulates blood circulation towards the roots of your strands.
Do’s
- Trim your hair in every 6 – 8 weeks.
- If you are using drier, keep it away from the scalp.
- Use natural dyes to color your hair.
- Use wide-toothed comb to prevent hair loss.
Don’ts
- Avoid using hair dryers, curling iron, and straighteners for styling your hair.
- Do not wash your hair daily.
- Don’t rub wet hair with towel.
- Never pull your hair too forcefully while doing ponytail or hair styling.
- Avoid using too much chemicals on your hair. Never use shampoo and conditioner that comprises of sodium laureth sulfate.
