Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder that mostly affects the middle-aged women with extremely fair skin. This medical condition may lead to enlarged blood vessels that turn your face red. You may experience swelling along with small pustules and papules. Most common symptoms of rosacea are – burning sensation, swelling with red patches, dryness, and small cysts on the skin. These symptoms might reappear after some time if not treated properly. Although the main cause of rosacea is still unknown, some factors that may trigger these flare-ups are – excessive exposure to the sunlight, consumption of spicy food, alcohol, stress, extreme temperature, intense exercises, sinus, sauna bath, etc. This article enlists numerous conventional home remedies to get rid of rosacea.
Home Remedies for Rosacea
Oatmeal is one of the natural treatments for rosacea. Just mix some powdered oats in water and apply it on the affected area. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of oats help reduce inflammation and itching, associated with rosacea.
- Or else, combine oatmeal and yogurt. Spread this mixture on the skin and leave it for 1-2 hours. Later, wash off with cold water.
- Alternatively, you can use oatmeal based soap to ease the tingling and burning sensation.
The water content and cooling properties of cucumber make it an effective treatment for rosacea. Crush some cucumbers; add raw milk to it and spread it on your face. Leave it for 20-30 minutes and then, wash off with lukewarm water.
- Or else, you can also rub fresh cucumber on your face. After half an hour, wash off with cold water.
Licorice helps prevent inflammation, redness and itching due to its anti-inflammatory properties. You need to mix 1 tbsp each of honey, aloe vera gel, and licorice powder. Stir properly and spread it on the affected area. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and then, wash it off with lukewarm water. This remedy must be practiced for 4-5 weeks till the symptoms of rosacea subside completely.
4. Apple Mask
Apple mask regulates the proper blood circulation and alleviates the signs of rosacea. Crush some apple in a grinder and spread it on your face. Keep it for 20 minutes and then clean with cold water. Do it once a day, to get the desired results.
Honey acts as a light moisturizer that helps reduce inflammation, redness, and swelling. Simply mix 2 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp of olive oil, and 1½ tbsp of milk. Apply this mixture on the affected skin and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Later, wash it off with the lukewarm water. Repeat this remedy 2-3 times a week. It helps prevent breakouts.
- Alternatively, you can apply raw honey on a regular basis.
Mix some turmeric, yogurt, and honey and spread it on the skin. After 20 minutes, wash off your face with the lukewarm water.
- Alternatively, mix half a tsp of turmeric in a glass of warm milk and drink it daily.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix 1 tbsp each of apple cider vinegar and honey in a cup of water. Drink this mixture two times daily, for a few weeks. If symptoms persist, increase the quantity of vinegar to 2 tbsp. This remedy helps maintain the body’s pH level and kills the disease-causing bacteria and yeast.
- Alternatively, dilute 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. Apply it on the affected area, and rinse your face with the lukewarm water after 10 minutes.
Flaxseeds help reduce itching, redness, and inflammation associated with rosacea. It contains essential fatty acids that benefit the overall health. Have 1 tbsp of flaxseed oil thrice a day, to treat this infection.
9. Cold Compress
Apply cold compress/ice packs on the affected area several times a day, to get rid of rosacea. Ice packs reduce inflammation, red patches, and itching.
10. Castor Oil
Mix ¼ tbsp of castor oil, and ½ tbsp of olive oil. Now apply it on the affected skin. Leave it for 10 minutes. Then, take a clean washcloth and dunk it in the lukewarm water. Wring out the extra water and apply the cloth on your skin. Regular application of this remedy helps unclog the skin pores.
11. Orange Peel Pack
Mix 1 tbsp ground almond, 1 tbsp dry milk powder, ½ tbsp dry ground orange peel and enough rosewater to make a paste. Apply this to the affected area and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash off with cold water.
Being a rich source of citric acid, lemon wards off the rosacea-causing bacteria. You can combine honey with lemon juice to make a perfect face mask. Honey moisturizes the skin, and lemon purifies the blood. Take 2 tbsp of honey and add enough lemon juice. Apply this on your face and wash it off with cold water after 15 minutes.
13. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the readily available, easy-to-use, and extremely effective treatments for rosacea. Apply some coconut oil directly on the bothersome area and leave it overnight. Wash it off in the morning. Repeat this process for a few weeks till the symptoms of rosacea go away.
- In addition, cook food in the coconut oil.
14. Fenugreek Seeds
Boil a cup of water; turn off the gas and add a tsp of fenugreek seeds to it. Allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Drink this infusion regularly for 15-20 days. It is a very effective natural treatment for rosacea.
15. Ginger Root
Take a double quantity of water than what is actually required. Add peeled ginger slices and simmer it for a couple of minutes. Later, steep the solution and strain. You can also add honey and lemon to this infusion, to enhance its taste.

16. Turmeric and Coriander Powder Paste
Take 2 tbsp of turmeric powder. Mix it with 4 tbsp of coriander powder and 1-2 tbsp of fresh milk. Apply this on your face and let it dry. Wash it off after 20 minutes with the lukewarm water. Note: Do not wash your face with soap after application of turmeric as it might turn the skin dark.
Herbal Remedies for Rosacea
17. Lavender Oil
Lavender oil has anti-inflammatory properties which help treat the skin problems. Dip a cotton ball in the lavender oil and apply it directly to the affected area. Leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning.
- Alternatively, mix almond oil and lavender oil in equal amount and massage it directly on the affected area. Leave it overnight and rinse it off with lukewarm water in the morning. Do it regularly for a few weeks.
Note: Do a patch test before using lavender oil as it might cause allergic reactions in some people.
18. Camphor Oil
Camphor oil acts as an analgesic. It has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Apply it directly to the affected area, let it stay overnight and wash off in the morning. This must regularly be applied for 2 weeks to notice the effects.
Note: Camphor oil may irritate your skin, so do a patch test before applying it to the affected area.
19. Chamomile Tea
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties and presence of the flavonoids and terpenoids, chamomile tea is very effective in reducing the burning sensation. Soak some chamomile tea bags in water for 10-15 minutes and then, strain the solution. Keep this water in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Later, dip a cotton swab or clean washcloth in this solution and place it on the affected area for 15 minutes. This remedy must be repeated 3-4 times a day until you feel improvement.
Note: Do a patch test before using this remedy as it might cause allergic reactions in some cases.
20. Green Tea
Green tea is packed with antioxidants, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps hydrate the body, speeds up the healing process, and reduces the redness and swelling. To obtain the maximum benefits of green tea, drink at least 2 cups daily.
- Alternatively, put a cup of green tea in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Dip a cotton swab or clean washcloth in it and apply it on the affected area. Keep it for 5 minutes and then, repeat the process. Do this 3-4 times a day.
21. Aloe Vera

- Alternatively, drink the juice of fresh aloe vera twice daily to get rid of the symptoms of rosacea.
22. Tea Tree Oil
Apply tea tree oil on the rosacea prone area and leave it overnight. Wash it off in the morning. Tea tree oil is antiseptic in nature; hence, this remedy will prove effective in treating rosacea, if used regularly.
23. Rose Hip Oil
Apply rose hip oil directly on the affected area. It helps fight with scars, blisters, sunburn, eczema, and other symptoms of rosacea. Repeat this remedy several times a day, until the traces of infection disappear.
- Alternatively, take a few drops of Indian lilac (margosa) oil and mix it with a few drops of rose hip oil. Apply it on the inflamed skin.
Note: Margosa oil should never be applied directly to the facial skin, as it may lead to irritation and burning.
24. Red Clover Extract
Red clover is also a very effective cure for rosacea. Prepare red clover tea and drink it twice daily to get rid of itching, redness, and swelling due to rosacea.
25. Cat’s Claw
Cat’s claw ensures healthy skin by promoting cell repair and cellular renewal. Just take 500 mg (approx.) of cat’s claw thrice a day, to cure rosacea.
Note: Avoid taking this herb if you are pregnant, a nursing mom or are an organ transplant recipient.

Gentian root is one of the ancient home remedies for rosacea. Steep 1-2 tbsp of dried gentian roots in a cup of water for 15 minutes and strain the mixture. Sip this tea 2-4 times daily before the meal, for a few weeks.
Note: This must not be taken by the ulcer patients as it might aggravate the symptoms.
32. Dang Gui
This is an ancient Chinese herb, which is rich in vitamin B12, folic acid, and biotin. This must be taken in the form of tea, or its paste must be applied on the affected area. It helps remove toxins from the skin, aids in the healing process, thus reducing the severity of rosacea symptoms.
- Make use of antiseptic creams after consulting your physician.
- Include at least 25 milligrams of zinc in your diet, as it helps fix the skin problems fast.
- Include vitamin B-complex and vitamin C in your diet.
- Make use of oil-free moisturizer and sunscreen lotion.
- Wash your face with water, frequently.
- Include probiotics in your diet like yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.
