But, do they really work? In truth, you don’t have to spend exorbitant amount when you can simply rely on just one ingredient, honey. Honey is not only a taste enhancer but a natural sweetener that has a lot of benefits. Owing to its antibacterial properties, it is used to treat various rashes, burns, etc. (1). It is quite versatile and can be used as a toner or a mask. If you want to have a flawless skin, without using chemical-based products that do more harm than good, then simply prepare your own skin brightening masks. Honey Face Mask Recipes
1. Lemon and Honey Face Mask
Honey is rich in many essential minerals and vitamins like zinc, potassium, riboflavin(vitamin B2), folic acid (vitamin B9), etc. that are required for our skin’s health (2). Lemon exfoliates the skin and is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant needed to fade spots and lighten the skin tone. To prepare a face mask with these, mix 2 tbsp of honey with the juice of ½ a lemon. Apply it all over your face avoiding areas around your eyes, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.
2. Cinnamon and Honey Face Mask
Cinnamon and honey have been used traditionally to treat pimples and other skin infections (3). It has the ability to treat pimples from roots. Just mix 1 tsp of cinnamon powder and 2 tbsp of honey in a bowl and make a smooth paste. Smear the mix on your face evenly, and let it set for 15-20 minutes (or overnight). Wash with normal to lukewarm water, later on.
3. Honey, Egg, And Avocado Mask
Some of the vitamins like vitamin E, A, C, etc. are vital for our skin and avocados have ample amount of them (4). Combine it with honey’s antibacterial and egg’s anti-inflammatory properties for a perfect skin brightening face mask. Just mix 2 tbsp of ripe and mashed avocado and 2 tbsp of honey with 1 egg yolk. Apply this mask on your face, leaving areas around your eyes for 15-20 minutes. Rinse well with regular to lukewarm water, afterward.
- Alternatively, if you don’t prefer egg, then just mix 2 tbsp of avocado (ripe) with 1 tbsp of honey and smear it evenly.
- Or else, mix ¼ ripe avocados, 1 tsp of coconut oil with 1 tsp of honey and apply in the similar fashion.
4. Apple and Honey Face Pack
Since apples are rich in vitamin C, they keep skin healthy and protect it from free radical damages. Honey, on the other hand, is antimicrobial, thus, inhibits the growth of bacteria on the skin (5). Blend an apple to get nice, smooth pulp. Add 2 tbsp of honey to it and keep it in a refrigerator for 10 minutes. Just apply the prepared mixture on your face for approx 30 minutes and rinse well, later on.
5. Honey, Yogurt, and Almond Oil Pack
If you are having trouble treating dry skin, then prepare a face mask by mixing 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp of yogurt, ½ tsp of almond oil, and 1 egg yolk. Almond oil in this mix helps reduce scars and rejuvenates skin (6), and the mixture will moisturize the skin from within and help tighten pores. Just stir the ingredients well, and smear it on your face avoiding eye area. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes before washing.
6. Honey with Wheat Germ Oil and Almond Mask
Almonds have a high amount of vitamin E, which is one of the vital vitamins required for beautiful skin. Wheat germ oil is also a rich source of vitamin E, and yogurt provides a natural glow to the skin. For this particular face mask, you will need 6 ounces of yogurt, 2 tsp of wheat germ oil, 2 tsp of honey, and ¼ ounces of crushed almonds. Prepare a smooth, lump-free paste by mixing these ingredients and spread the mixture over your face. Massage for some time in a circular motion, and leave it for another 20 minutes. Rinse well, afterward.
7. Egg, Honey, Lemon EO, Orange Essential Oil Mask
In order to get rid of acne and acne scars, whip an egg white and add 1 tbsp of warm thyme honey, 3 drops each, of orange and lemon essential oil to it. Because of the presence of honey, this face mask also reduces irritation, redness of the skin (8). Mix them well, and apply a thin layer of the pack all over your face and the areas with acne. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash off later. Moisturize if required. Repeat this 2 times a week.
- Or, you can use ½ tsp of lemon juice in the place of lemon essential oil.
8. Honey and Lavender Essential Oil Pack
Lavender oil is widely used in aromatherapy for the treatment of various ailments like a headache, nervous disorders, etc. It has shown promising results for the treatment of acne, as well (9). Honey, being a natural moisturizer, nourishes and moisturizes the skin from within. To prepare a face mask from these, just add 3 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 tbsp of honey, and spread it on your face. Let it dry for 15 minutes and wash off with warm water.
9. Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask
In order to get a glowing skin, it is essential to remove dead skin cells and facilitate the formation of new ones. Oatmeal helps remove sebum and dead skin cells, working as an exfoliator, and thus, helps fade acne scars. Firstly, soak some oatmeal in water until soft. Blend it to obtain a smooth paste and add 1-2 tbsp of honey and 2 tsp of lemon juice to it. Apply it on your face, and leave it on for 20 minutes before washing.
10. Banana and Honey with Egg Face Mask
People with sensitive skin often find it difficult to find the right product for their skin, as they are more prone to rashes, burning sensation, and more such skin problems (11). To soothe the sensitive skin and to get the natural glow, prepare a face mask by mixing ½ mashed banana, 1 egg, ½ tbsp of honey, and ¼ cup (cooked with milk) oatmeal. Spread a thin layer of the mixture on your face and massage gently for about 15 minutes. Wash off with normal water and moisturize if required.
11. Honey and Carrot Mask
Carrots are rich sources of vitamin A, B6, K, Potassium, and biotin (12). Therefore, it helps reduce wrinkles, fade dark spots, and lightens dark circles. If you are suffering from these problems, then just cook and mash 2 carrots. Add 4 ½ tbsp of honey to it. Apply it all over your face for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water.
- Alternatively, boil some baby carrots and add 1 tbsp each of honey and oats. Smear it evenly on your face and rinse well with lukewarm water after 15 minutes.
12. Honey and Papaya Face Pack
Papayas are a rich source of potassium, fiber, vitamin A, C, and folate. It reduces the blemishes, balances the pH of the skin, and is well known for anti-aging properties. To get a radiant look, combine 3 tsp of heavy cream, 1/3 cup of cocoa, 1/4 cup of honey, 3 tsp of oatmeal powder, and 1/3 cup ripe papaya. Blend them together to form a smooth lump free paste. Apply the mixture on your face for 10-15 minutes and wash off.
13. Honey Bee Pollen and Honey Face Mask
Not many know about the use of pollen for skin. It has anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties (14). Pollen helps generate new cells and protects the skin from damage. Since it has lots of amino acid, vitamins, and other nutrients, it fights wrinkles effectively and is suitable for all skin type. Just mix 1 tsp of bee pollen to 2 tsp of honey, and smear it all over your face. Wash off after about 30 minutes to get rid of almost all skin problems.
14. Aloe Vera and Honey Face Mask
Aloe Vera, a wonderful natural moisturizer, is well known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory qualities (15), which purify the blood. As it contains gibberellins and polysaccharides, it helps kill acne-causing bacteria and keeps skin soft and glowing. Just 1 tbsp of aloe gel with 4 tbsp of honey and wear the mask. Wash off after 20 minutes.
- Or, you can also add 1 tbsp of kelp powder to the mixture if required.
15. Avocado, Plain Yogurt, and Raw Honey Mask
This is a wonderful honey face mask for dry skin, which provides a natural glow. As avocados are rich in numerous vitamins like E, C, K1, B-vitamins, and compounds like magnesium & potassium (16), they are a must-have components for spot free skin. All you need to do is, add 1 tsp of honey (preferably raw), 1 tsp of yogurt, and 1 tsp of avocado pulp in a bowl and stir it thoroughly to form a smooth paste. Spread a thin layer of the mix on your face, and leave it on for at least 20 minutes (or more). Wash off with lukewarm water and moisturize if required.
16. Tea Tree Oil and Honey Face Mask
Since tea tree oil possesses anti-fungal properties, it is able to treat many infections of the skin (17). Combine it with honey’s antibacterial properties to get a flawless skin. To prepare a face mask, add 2 drops of the oil to 1 tbsp of honey. Clean your face, apply the mask, let it sit for 15 minutes and wash off.
Note: Essential oil may not be suitable for all, do a patch test before actual use.
17. Honey with Lemon, Milk, and Yogurt Pack
It is really difficult to get rid of acne and its scars. To cure them, it is essential to increase the content of minerals and nutrients like Vitamin C, E zinc, magnesium, etc. (18). To provide these nutrients to your skin, prepare a mask by mixing 1 tbsp of yogurt, 2 tbsp of milk, 2 tbsp of honey, and juice of a lemon. Add lukewarm water if the consistency is not as desired. Apply 2-3 layers of the mixture on your face and after the last layer, let the mix sit for 10-15 minutes before washing.
18. Honey and Sandalwood Powder Face Pack
Sandalwood powder has been used traditionally in several skin care products and various homemade face packs due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities (19). It is one of the best ingredients for dry skin and does wonders for the acne-prone skin. To prepare a face mask, mix 1 tbsp of sandalwood powder, 2 tbsp of honey, and juice of ½ a lemon. Spread a thin layer of the mixture on your face, avoiding eye area. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing it off.
19. Honey and Fuller Earth Powder Face Mask
Oily skin leads to many skin problems and makes the face look dull and lifeless. There are many factors that cause an oily skin, such as hormonal changes, genetics, unhealthy diet, etc. (20). It is essential to remove extra oil from face and retain the natural glow. For this, just add 1 tsp of fuller earth powder to 1 tbsp of honey with a little lukewarm water if required. Apply the pack on your face for 15-20 minutes and wash off, later on.
20. Honey, Cucumber, and Milk Mask
Cucumbers are rich in vitamin A, C, B1, B6, calcium, magnesium, and many more minerals (21). Due to these nutrients, cucumber keeps skin toned, healthy, decreases sebum, and protects skin from harmful UV rays. Honey, as already mentioned, keeps the moisture intact and nourishes the skin from deep within. To prepare a face pack using these, just mix 1-2 tbsp of milk, 1 tbsp of honey, and 2 tbsp of grated (or mashed) cucumber. You can also adjust the ingredients according to desired consistency. Wear the mask for 10-15 minutes and rinse well with regular water.
21. Honey, Glycerin, and Turmeric Pack
Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and possesses anti-inflammatory properties (22). It has been used in many skin care products for decades. Glycerin, on the other hand, is a natural moisturizer, which keeps skin firm, supple, and smooth. Combine 1 tbsp of honey, some glycerin, and a pinch or two of honey together. Apply this on your face, and let it stay for 15-20 minutes before washing.
22. Honey and Tomato Face Mask
To maintain the elasticity and natural glow, our skin requires many nutrients like vitamin A, C, potassium, etc. All of them are present in tomatoes (23). Therefore, to get glowing skin, mix tomato puree and honey to form a thick paste. Smear this mixture on your face and wash off after 15 minutes.
- You can also add a few drops of lemon juice to it for better results.
23. Banana and Honey Face Mask
Bananas are also rich in vitamin A, C, and potassium, which are required for a healthy skin. Just mash a ripe banana and add some honey to it. Apply the mask to your face and massage gently for some time in a circular motion. Leave it for another couple of minutes and wash off with water.
- You can also prepare an oil control face mask by mixing 1 tbsp of honey, and a few drops of orange juice with 1 ripe and mashed banana. Just apply it on your face, and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it off (25).
- Or else, add a few drops of lemon juice to it and apply in a similar manner.
24. Honey and Onion Juice Mask
To get spotless skin, it is essential to protect the skin from various damages. Sun rays or the UV rays are most harmful to our skin. You can protect your skin from UV rays by applying products containing quercetin (26). In order to treat it with all-natural ingredients, just prepare a face mask by mixing 1 tbsp of honey with 1 tbsp of onion paste/ juice. Apply the pack on your skin for about 15 minutes and wash off later on. This method will not only protect your skin from harmful UV rays but also fight wrinkles.
25. Honey, Chickpea Flour, and Turmeric Pack
Turmeric has been used since long for the treatment of several ailments in Ayurveda. It is also used as a remedy for several skin conditions (27). To prepare a face mask for glowing skin, mix chickpea flour with some honey to form a smooth paste. Add a pinch of turmeric to it and apply to your face. Let the mask dry and wash your face with regular water.
26. Honey with Yogurt & Fennel Face Pack
Easily available spice, fennel, is rich in many essential vitamins like B 6, A, C, and many minerals (28). To make another face mask for glowing skin, first of all, infuse some fennel seed in water. Mix 3 tbsp of honey, 3 tbsp of yogurt with 3 tbsp of oatmeal. Add 3 tbsp of fennel seed infusion to it and stir until smooth. Apply the pack on your face until dry and rinse well, afterward.
27. Egg and Honey Face Mask
Fine lines and wrinkles make skin look dull and aging (29). To combat this and to fight aging skin, just add some honey to an egg to form a smooth mix. Apply the pack on your skin and wash off after 15-20 minutes. Repeat the procedure daily to get satisfactory results.
- Alternatively, you can also use egg white instead of whole egg. Just mix 1 tbsp each, of honey and egg white, and add ½ tsp of lemon juice to it. Apply and rinse well with lukewarm water after 10 to 15 minutes.
28. Honey and Almond Face pack
To heal and nourish your dry and dull skin, prepare a face pack using almonds and honey. Just mix 2 tbsp of freshly prepared almond paste with 1 tbsp of honey. Spread it evenly on your face and wash off after 15 minutes. As almonds are rich in monosaturated fats, magnesium, copper, and other compounds, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent (30), which helps heal the skin.
29. Honey with Oats and Curd Mask
Oats help scrub the skin and are a wonderful exfoliator too (31). For this face mask for flawless skin, all you need is to mix 4 tbsp, each of curd and milk, 2 tbsp of honey with 2 tbsp of oats. Stir until smooth mixture is formed, and apply it on your face and neck for 15 to 20 minutes and wash off, later on.
30. Dark Chocolate, Rice powder, and Honey Packs
This is another face mask for oily skin, which will not only reduce the oil from the skin but also make it look younger. Just, add 1 tbsp of dark chocolate powder, 1 tbsp of rice powder to 2 tbsp of honey. Honey in this mask acts as a moisturizer while dark chocolate prevents from harmful UV radiation (32), and rice powder acts as scrub, which removes extra oil. You can add water if the consistency is not as desired. Apply it all over your face and neck, and let it dry. Rinse well, afterward.
31. Strawberry with Honey and Lemon Face Pack
Strawberries nourish and revitalize your skin, as they are a rich source of vitamin C, E, carotenoids (33). It also protects skin from UV rays and aging. Lemon, on the other hand, fades scars and marks from the skin. To make a face mask, firstly mash 3-4 strawberries, and add 1 tbsp of honey and juice of ½ a lemon to it. Mix them well, and apply the mix on your face evenly. Let it stay for 15-20 minutes and wash off, later on.
32. Turmeric, Milk, and Honey Face Mask
This is another easy and effective honey face mask for acne. Turmeric has been used since ages to treat several skin conditions (34). Milk acts as a cleanser and honey, as already mentioned, is a natural moisturizer. In order to prepare a mask, take a bowl and add 1 tsp of turmeric, 1 tbsp of honey, and 2 tsp of milk (preferably raw). Mix the ingredients well and apply the pack on your face and neck, leaving eye areas. Let it sit for 15 minutes and wash off, later on.
- Alternatively, you can also add the juice of half a lemon to the above face mask.
33. Nutmeg with Honey and Lemon Pack
Blackheads are really very annoying. They are caused when pores get clogged, and discoloration of sebum occurs due to air (35). To get rid of them and to make skin look flawless, you need to mix 2 tbsp of honey with 1 tsp of lemon juice, and ¼ tsp each, of nutmeg and cinnamon powder. Spread an even layer of the paste on your face and massage gently in a circular motion for some time. Leave it on for another 15 minutes and rinse well. Apply moisturizer if required.
34. Mango and Chamomile with Honey Mask
You can also prepare a skin lightening face pack with chamomile essential oil and honey. As chamomile is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and analgesic (36), it does wonders to skin. You will need 4 tbsp of honey, 2-3 carrots (preferably cooked), ¼ fresh mango (peeled), and ½ tsp of chamomile essential oil. Blend them together to form a smooth paste, and smear an even layer on your face. Let it sit for 15 minutes before washing it off.
35. Honey with Chamomile, Mint, and Egg Face Pack
This face mask provides a natural glow to the skin and is suitable for all skin types. The mask consists of mint, which provides a calming and soothing effect on skin (37). Just mix properly, 1 tbsp of honey, 1 egg white, 3 to 4 drops of lavender oil(or rose essential oil), 1 tsp of chamomile flowers(crushed), and 1 tsp of chopped mint. Spread a thin layer of the mixture on your face and wash off after 15 minutes.
36. Oatmeal with Yogurt, Egg, Olive Oil, and Honey Mask
Olive oil soothes and moisturizes the skin, honey heals, and oatmeal removes dead skin cells. Since apples are rich in vitamin C, which protects skin from UV rays, the face mask neutralizes free radicals and protects from sunburn (38). If your skin is oily, then this is one of the best face masks that you can prepare for your skin. Just combine 2 tbsp of honey, ½ apple, 1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp of yogurt, 3 drops of lavender or rose essential oil, ½ tsp of olive oil (extra virgin), 2 tbsp of oatmeal paste, and water. Stir them to form a lump-free paste, and apply to your face and neck. Rinse off after 15 minutes.
37. Yeast, Yogurt, and Honey Face Mask
Yogurt consists of vitamins like riboflavin, folate, B12, calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals (39), which is why, it is important to incorporate this as the main ingredient for a radiant skin. For this oil control face mask, you need 2 hearts of palm, 2 tbsp of yogurt, 1 tbsp of organic honey, and 1 tbsp of ground yeast. Now for the pack, firstly mash hearts of palm, and add all the other ingredients to form a smooth paste. Apply the prepared paste on your face for 15 to 20 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
38. Apple, Sage, and Honey Face Pack
This is one of the best face masks for an oily and acne-prone skin. All you need is 2 tbsp of organic honey, 1 apple, and ½ tsp of sage. Mix them well and spread it evenly on your face, leaving areas around your eyes. Let it stay for 15 to 20 minutes and wash off with regular to cold water.
Note: Sage may cause inflammation, and it is advised that you should perform a patch test before application (40).
39. Green Tea, Honey, Aloe Vera Mask
It is important to maintain the elasticity of the skin and hydrate it. For this, the face pack must contain such ingredients that have potent vitamins and minerals that keep skin soft and glowing. It has been proved by several studies that green tea possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which are useful for many skin disorders (41). So, in order to prepare a mask with honey and green tea, just mix thoroughly 2 tsp of green tea, 1 tsp honey, 1 tbsp of aloe vera juice, and 2 tsp of clay. Smear a thin layer of the pack on your face and rinse off after 15-20 minutes.
40. ACV, Honey, and Oatmeal Face Mask
Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent, which tones your skin (42). Oatmeal, on the other hand, helps soothe irritated skin due to the presence of a substance called saponin (43). To make skin look younger, mix 2 tbsp of finely crushed oatmeal, 1 tbsp of honey and 3 tbsp of ACV. Stir them well to form a smooth paste, and apply it on your face leaving eyes area. Wash off after 15-20 minutes and moisturize if required.
41. Cucumber, Mint, and Lemon Mask
This is another wonderful face mask for oily skin. Cucumber tones, honey rejuvenates the skin (44), and lemon removes the spots. You will need 3 tbsp of grated cucumber, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 1 egg white, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1 tbsp of fresh peppermint. Just mix the ingredients thoroughly, and apply it on your face for 15-20 minutes before washing it off.
42. ACV, Green Tea, Honey, Sugar Pack
Acne may leave scars behind which must be treated as soon as possible (45). For this easy and effective face pack for removing acne marks and scars, you need to mix 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar (ACV), 2 tbsp of green tea (unsweetened), 2 tbsp of fine sugar, and 1 tbsp of honey in a bowl. Apply this on your face and massage gently for some time. Leave it for another couple of minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
Note: Do not use this during breakouts and on acne. Sugar granules may worsen the condition.
43. Strawberry, Egg White, and Honey Face Mask
Being rich in vitamin C, strawberries are excellent for treating skin problems (46) and egg white helps prevent accumulation of dirt and produces lysosome, which prevents the formation of acne causing bacteria. To make this mask at home, crush and blend 5-6 strawberries, and beat 1 egg white. Mix these ingredients well, and add 1-2 tsp of honey to it. Spread this mask evenly on your face except for areas around eyes. Rinse thoroughly after 20 minutes. You can wear this mask twice or thrice a week.
44. Honey with Egg White Face Pack
This mask is for all skin type and for both acne and scars. Egg white is rich in proteins (47) amino acid, and minerals that are essential for treating acne. It tightens the skin and reduces blemishes. For this mask, just add 1 egg white and 2 tbsp of honey. Mix them thoroughly. Apply this to your face, and let it stay for 20 minutes. Wash off later with normal to lukewarm water and pat dry the skin.
45. Cucumber, Oats, and Honey Mask
There are lots of honey face mask benefits. This face mask can be used to provide a natural glow to your face and is particularly beneficial for oily skin. Cucumber provides a cooling sensation and tightens the skin (48), oats exfoliate, and honey acts as a natural antibacterial agent. Just add ½ cucumber (medium sized), 2 tbsp of oats, 1 tbsp of honey, and a few drops of lemon in a blender and churn until smooth. Apply the mixture on your face by gently massaging, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse well with water.
46. Honey and Yogurt Face Mask
This is the easiest face mask that you can prepare in order to fade and reduce acne scars. Just combine an equal amount of honey and yogurt in a bowl, and apply it all over your face, leaving the area around your eyes. Yogurt has ample amount of zinc, vitamin B, and probiotics (49) that are required for skin. Apart from these, both the ingredients have cooling effect, so they also provide relief in itching caused due to acne. Wash it off after 20 minutes with normal to lukewarm water.
