7 Promising Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Yeast Infection

Apple Cider Vinegar for Yeast Infection

Yeast infection is the condition of growth of too many yeast cells in the vagina or penis caused by Candida Albicans. It is a very common problem among female, but it can also affect men. The most common symptoms are itching, unusual discharge, irritation, etc.

There are other types of yeast infection too, like oral thrush, skin yeast infection, etc. In almost all types of infections, red patches occur on the affected portion which may cause itching or burning sensation.

Apple cider vinegar, commonly known as ACV, is obtained by the fermentation of apple. This wonderful liquid contains iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, etc., that are required for a healthy body (1). But can it cure the yeast infection? If yes, then what are the qualities and properties due to which it shows such behavior? Let’s discuss them.

How Does Apple Cider Vinegar Treat yeast Infection?

It is essential to maintain the pH levels as higher level are dangerous and may lead to infections. ACV is slightly acidic in nature and it maintains the pH of the body (2). The nutrients present in this ingredient inhibit the growth of the disease-causing organism.

Apple cider vinegar also boosts the immune system, which is very important for controlling and preventing the yeast to thrive (3).

It has been observed that the yeast infection is common with the people suffering from diabetes. Apple cider vinegar is also effective in controlling the blood sugar level and hence, the infection.

ACV also increases the good bacteria in our system that eventually kills and hampers the growth of the yeast causing the infection.

How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Yeast Infection

1. ACV in Diet

The easiest and simplest way to use ACV for infection is to incorporate it in your diet. Studies have proved that apple cider vinegar helps get rid of the problem (5). There are several ways in which you can consume ACV.

For the very first method, mix 1-2 tbsp of the vinegar in a glass of warm water and drink this twice or thrice a day.

  • Alternatively, you can also mix the ACV with regular water and drink it before meals.
  • Or, use ACV as a dressing on your fruits and salad.
  • Apart from that, it can also be used in pickles, baked potatoes, etc.

2. ACV with Tea Tree Oil

Essential oils are always the best way to treat allergies, inflammation, and other skin disorders. Tea tree oil is one of the famous essential oils that is used in aromatherapy due to its numerous properties. It is also beneficial for the treatment of Candida as observed in many types of research (6).

For treating Candida, mix 3 cups of ACV with 3-5 drops of tea tree oil. Put the content in your bathtub containing warm water and soak for 15-20 minutes. Do this every day for the best results.

3. Apply ACV to Infected Area

Apple cider vinegar can treat some allergies as studies show (7).You can also apply ACV over the infected area to cure the infection. For this, take a piece of cloth or cotton and immerse it in diluted cider vinegar for some time. Now, squeeze out the excess, and place the cotton on the walls of the vagina or the infected area. Repeat it daily until the desired result is obtained.

4. ACV Bath

The symptoms of yeast infection can be experienced in different parts of our body (8). For yeast infection of the skin and genital areas, mix 1-2 cups of apple cider vinegar to bath tub containing warm water and sit in for 15-20 minutes. Repeat it daily to cure the infection.

Note: How long does it take apple cider vinegar to cure yeast infection depends on the extremity of the infection. If the infection is mild, then, it will be cured in a few days; else it will take longer to treat a severe infection.

5. ACV with Beverages

Juices and tea are world’s most consumed beverages. Then, why not mix ACV in it to eliminate the toxins and treat the disease? Mix it with herbal tea, juices of fruits and vegetable, and other drinks to prevent the infection from spreading.

6. ACV Douche

Douching for treating the yeast infection is very common. However, there is no clear evidence that proves the effectiveness of douching for yeast infection and some studies support it while others do not (10,11). To prepare a douching solution, you will need 2 tbsp of cider vinegar and juice of ½ a lemon. Use it every day to treat the infection (12).

  • Alternatively, you can use just water and ACV as a douche.

7. Apple Cider Vinegar Supplements

Since the taste of the vinegar is terrible, many pharmaceutical companies have started making pills, tablets, and capsules. The companies claim that these supplements have the same nutrient composition as found in raw vinegar, but the quantity of calcium, iron, etc., may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Note: A study shows that consumption of these tablets can cause esophageal injury. Therefore, you must be very careful while using them (13).
